Visit to the Blessed Sacrament
(St. Alphonsus Liguori)
My Lord Jesus Christ, who through the love which you bear to men, remain with them day and night in this Sacrament, full of mercy and of love, expecting, inviting all to come and visit you, I believe that you are present in the Sacrament of the Altar. From the abyss of my nothingness I adore you; and I thank you for all the favours you have bestowed upon me, particularly for having given me for my advocate your most holy Mother, Mary; and for having now called me to visit you; I this day honour your most loving Heart, and intend to honour it for three ends; first, in thanksgiving for this great gift; secondly, in compensation for all the injuries you have received from your enemies in this Sacrament; thirdly, I intend by this visit to adore you in all places in which you are least honoured and most abandoned in the Holy Sacrament.
My Jesus, I love you with my whole heart. I am sorry for ever having offended your infinite goodness. I purpose with the assistance of your grace, never more to offend you; and at this moment, miserable as I am, I consecrate my whole being to you. I give you my will, all my affections and desires, and all that I have. From this day forward, do what you please with me and with whatever belongs to me. I only ask and desire your holy love, the gift of final perseverance, and the perfect accomplishment of your will. I recommend to you all poor sinners.
Finally, my dear Saviour, I unite all my affections with the affections of your most loving Heart; and thus united, I offer them to your eternal Father, and I entreat him, in your name, and for your sake, to accept them.
Anima Christi
Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, inebriate me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O Good Jesus, hear me.
Suffer me not to be separated from thee.
From the malicious enemy defend me
In the hour of my death, call me, and bid me come to thee.
That with thy saints I may praise Thee.
For ever and ever. Amen.
Spiritual Communion
My Jesus, I believe that you are truly present in the most blessed Sacrament. I love you above all things and I desire to receive you into my heart. As already there, I embrace you and I unite myself entirely to you. Never permit me to be separated from you.
Eucharistic Blessing

Let us bow in adoration
To this Sacrament so great.
Here is new and perfect worship.
All the old must terminate
Senses cannot grasp this marvel.
Faith must serve to compensate.
Glory, honour, adoration,
Let us sing with one accord,
Praised be God, almighty Father
Praised be Christ, His Son, our Lord
Praised be God, the Holy Spirit,
Triune Godhead be adored. Amen.

Let us pray : O God, in this wonderful Sacrament you have left us a memorial of your passion. Grant us the grace so to reverence the sacred mysteries of your Body and Blood, that we may continually find in our souls the fruit of your redemption: who live and reign for ever and ever. Amen.

Blessed be God in his angels and in his saints.

n the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O my God, I give you thanks for all the benefits which I have received from you, and particularly those I have received this day.

Give me light to see what sins I have committed this day, and grant me the grace to be truly sorry for them.

Examination of Conscience
  1. What sins have you committed against God ? Have you been irreverent, or willfully distracted during Mass or during your prayers? Have you thought of God and offered to Him all your works and actions?
  2. Have you offended your neighbours by hatred, rash judgment, anger, jealousy, quarrelling, abusive words, lies, detraction, bad example ? Have you sinned against your parents or superiors by disobedience, disrespect, insolence, contempt ?
  3. 3.Have you sinned against yourself by joining bad company or by listening improper conversation; by sloth or laziness in your work or in your studies; by impure thoughts, desires, words, actions by gluttony in eating or by drinking; by vanity or by pride ?
An Act of Contrition
O my God I am very sorry that I have offended you.
I love you with all my heart, because you are so good, and I will not sin again.
Into your hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit; Lord Jesus receive my soul.
Holy Mary be a Mother to me.
May the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Joseph, and all the Saints, pray for us to our Lord, that we may be preserved this night from sin and all other evil. O my good Angel, whom God has appointed to be my guardian, watch over me during this night.
All you Angels and Saints of God pray for me.
May our Lord bless us and preserve us from all evil, and bring us to life everlasting.
May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
A Prayer for Young People

I am so grateful, Lord, for the gift of my youth. The keenness of the urge which impels me towards everything of beauty and charm in the world around me comes from you.

To you I owe this deep sense of the life throbbing within me, and my intense thirst for love, the warmest and truest expressions of which I am forever seeking in the people and things around me. All this I thank you for.

Lord, please don’t ever let any taint or meanness or selfishness or any wayward desire simply to gratify my senses tarnish my role in the marvelous purpose of your creation.

May the intense joy I experience in life itself never lead me into the sort of senseless ventures which leave behind only wistful regret at having spoilt something beautiful and the bitter awareness of other baser tastes.

May the momentous decisions my age brings with it be faced with all my youthful enthusiasm, tempered, however, with a sense of responsibility with boldness, but with my feet firmly on the ground, so that I may never be carried away by unrealistic dreams or distorted values.

May my young years be characterized by a balanced outlook, discrimination, and a deep sensitivity to what nature in its boundlessness has to say to me.

Let all the delicacy of understanding and perfect sympathy you showed in your relationships with mankind and all the matchless beauty of your nature be seen in me! Amen.

Prayer to St. Joseph
To you, O blessed, we fly in our tribulation; and after imploring the help of your most Holy Spouse, we ask also with confidence for your intercession. By the tender affection which bound you to the Immaculate Virgin Mother of God, and by the paternal love with which you did embrace the child Jesus, we beseech you to look kindly upon the inheritance which Jesus Christ, acquired by His precious blood, and by thy powerful aid to help us in our needs. Protect, O most careful guardian of the Holy Family, the chosen people of Jesus Christ. Keep us, more loving Father, from all pestilence of error and corruption. From your place in heaven, most powerful protector, be thou mercifully with us, in this warfare with the powers of darkness; and, as you did rescue the child Jesus when in utmost peril of life, so now defend God’s Holy Church from all adversity. Guard each of us by your constant patronage, so that, sustained by your example and help, we may live in holiness, die a holy death, and obtain everlasting happiness in heaven. Amen.
Prayer to the Holy Spirit
You who best console the lonely heart,
Refuge in danger, Protector in distress.
You who cleanse the soul of every stain,
And heal all its wounds.
Strength of the weak,
Support of those on the point of falling.
Teacher of those who are humble of heart,
Who put down the proud-hearted.
Father of the fatherless, Hope of the poor,
Treasure of those in need.
To the Holy Spirit
Guiding Star of every wayfarer,
Harbour for those in danger of shipwreck.
Strengthen of the living,
Salvation of those about to die.
Holy Spirit,
and have mercy on me.
St. Augustine
Holy Spirit, love of my heart,
I adore you.
Enlighten me, console me.
Tell me what I must do.
Command me.
I promise to submit myself
to all that you will of me,
and accept all you permit to befall me.
Let me only know your will.
Card. Mercier.
Sanctifying the Night with the
Holy Spirit

In stillness and in silence deep as night,
be my soul before you, Holy Spirit.
Come down upon me, soft as the starlight;
close around me, closer than the dark;
Refresh me as the rain-fall renew the earth.
Stay with me Lord, until the morning comes;
and at the dawning of the new day
be you an even
brighter sunburst in my soul.
Come Holy Spirit
Come Holy Spirit, I need Thee
Come sweet Spirit I pray
Come in thy strength and power
Come in thy own gentle way.
Come as the wisdom to children
Come as new sight to the blind
Lord let thy sweet healing power
Touch my soul, body, and mind.
Come like a spring in the desert
Come to the wearied of soul.
Lord let thy sweet healing power
touch me and make me whole
Come Lord as rest to the wearied
Come as a balm for the sore
come as the dew to my dryness
Fill me with joy ever more.
Immaculate Heart of Mary,
Pray for us.

“By this cult, the Church renders the immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary the honour which is due to her, since under the symbol of this heart, she pays homage to her eminent holiness, and particularly to her ardent love for God and her Son Jesus, and to her maternal love for men, redeemed by the Blood of God”. (Acta Apost Sedis, vol.XXXIII, p.50).
Prayer in Honour of the
Immaculate Heart of Mary

Heart of Mary, Heart of God’s own Mother, how admirable are your prerogatives! Obtain for us the grace to understand them well and to honour them worthily. Heart of Mary, Heart like unto the Heart of Jesus make our hearts like unto His Divine Heart.

Heart of Mary, always burning with the love of Jesus, enkindle our hearts with this same love.

Heart of Mary, Heart immaculate, Heart most pure, purify our hearts from all their sins.

Heart of Mary, the sweetest and most tender of all hearts, be our consolation in our trials, and our refuge at the hour of death.

Heart of Mary in whom Jesus is well pleased, make our hearts pleasing to the divine Saviour.

Heart of Mary, pierced with a sword of sorrow, fill our hearts with a loving compassion.

Heart of Mary, Heart of the Mother of mercy, pour into our hearts those sweet dispositions which bring about peace and salvation.

Heart of Mary, Heart of the Mother of fair love, fill our hearts with your love.

Heart of Mary, Heart of the Mother of knowledge of holy hope, be our guiding star on our way to heaven.

Act of Consecration to the
Immaculate Heart of Mary

O Mary, powerful Virgin and Mother of Mercy, Queen of heaven and Refuge of sinners; we consecrate ourselves to your Immaculate Heart. We consecrate to you our whole being and all our life; all that we have, all that we love, all that we are.
To you we give our bodies,, our hearts, our souls; to you we dedicate our homes, our families, our country. We desire that everything in us, and everything about us should belong to you and share in your maternal blessings and the fruits thereof. And that this consecration may be truly efficacious and lasting, we renew at your feet today, O Mary, the promises of our Baptism. We bind ourselves to profess courageously and at all times the truths of faith, and to live as Catholics in full submission to all the requirements of the Pope and the Bishops in communion with him. We pledge ourselves to keep the commandments of God and of the Church and specially to keep holy the Sunday. We undertake to embrace in our daily lives, as far as possible, the consoling practice of the Christian religion and, above all, Holy Communion. We promise you, O glorious Mother of God and tender Mother of men, to occupy ourselves with our whole hearts in devotion to your blessed service, in order to hasten and confirm, through the reign of your Immaculate Heart, the kingdom of your adorable Son in our souls and the souls of all who dwell in our beloved country, and throughout the universe, on earth as in heaven. Amen.
Visit to the Image of Mary
(St. Alphonsus Liguoi)

Most Holy and Immaculate Virgin, to you, my Mother Mary, who are the Mother of my Lord, the Queen of the universe, the Advocate, the Hope, the Refuge of sinners, to you, I who am the most miserable of all, have recourse, I salute you, o great Queen. I thank you for all the favours you have hitherto bestowed upon me, particularly, for having delivered me from hell which I have so often deserved. I love you, O most amiable Lady, and through the love which I bear you, I promise always to serve you, and to do all that I can to induce others to love you. In you, after Jesus, I place all my hope, all my salvation. Accept me for under your protection; all my salvation; and since you are so powerful before God, deliver me from all temptations, or rather obtain for me strength to conquer them till death. O my mother ! Through the love which you do bear to God, I implore of you to assist me always, but particularly at the last moment of my life. Do not leave me till you see me safe in heaven, to bless you and to sing your mercies for all eternity. Such is my fervent hope, such is my ardent wish.

Prayer of St. Bernard
Remember O most gracious Virgin Mary that never was it known that any one who fled to your protection, was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of Virgins, my Mother. To you I come; before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy hear and answer me.
Act of Reparation to the
Immaculate Heart of Mary

O Immaculate Heart of Mary, here we are gathered around your altar to make solemn profession of all that faith, devotion and love which link us to you.

In this way, we would console your Heart for the many wounds inflicted on it, not only by the children of darkness but also by so many ungrateful Christians. Receive the consolation we offer, oh sweet, immaculate, merciful Heart!

The more the souls of those of your children who refuse to recognize you
are dulled with apathy and indifference.
The more eagerly will we hasten to bless, praise and thank you.
The faster worldlings may rush to quench their thirst at the tainted springs
of earthly pleasures.
The more unfailingly will we draw from the pure streams flowing from
Your Immaculate Heart.
The more your name is profaned, your greatness denied, your glories
The more diligently will we endeavour so that you shall be known, served
And loved.
When the world chase after honours and riches.
It is to you we will come and, prostrate at your feet we will taste of the
chaste joys which issue from your Heart.

O Blessed Virgin, we therefore pray to you to withdraw your gaze from the foul mass of sins the world places before you, and turn your merciful eyes towards these your children so that you may be comforted by the heartbeats of so many who love you and the sighs of so many souls devoted to you.

Oh Holy and Immaculate Heart, Oh Virgin Heart, accept our offerings, our praise, our vows, and we beg you to increase our faith, redouble our love, and strengthen more and more the hope we place in your Heart.

All - Amen.
“From the wounded Heart of Jesus and the transfixed Heart of Mary God wants to make his love known to the world”
(Blessed Gaetano Errico).

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

O God, come to our aid
O Lord, make haste to help us.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Holy Mother ! Pierce me through, in my heart each wound renew of my Saviour crucified.

The First Sorrow
Simeon’s Prophecy

The Child’s father and mother were amazed at the things Simeon said about him. Simeon blessed them and said to May, His mother, “This child is chosen by God for the destruction and the salvation of many in Israel. He will speak against and so reveal their secret thoughts. And sorrow, like a sharp sword, will break your own heart.” (Lk.2,33-35)

“This is how the judgement works: the light has come into the world, but people love the darkness rather than the light, because their deeds are evil”. (Jn.3,19).

The Second Sorrow
The Escape to Egypt

An angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph and said, “Herod will be looking for the child in order to kill him. So get up, take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you to leave.” (Mt.2,13).

“He came to his own country, but his own people did not receive him. Some, however, did receive him and believed in him; so he gave them the right to become God’s children”. (Jn.1,11).

1 Our Father, 7 Hail Mary, 1 Glory be, - Holy Mother !..

The Third Sorrow
The Child Jesus is lost

“Every year the parents of Jesus went to Jerusalem for the Passover Festival. When Jesus was twelve years old, they went to the festival as usual. When the festival was over, they started back home, but the boy Jesus stayed in Jerusalem. His parents did not know this”. (Lk.2,41-43).

“What I teach is not my own teaching, but it comes from God, who sent me. Whoever is willing to do what God wants will know whether what I teach comes from God or whether I speak on my own authority.” (Jn.7, 16-17)

1 Our Father, 7 Hail Mary, 1 Glory be, - Holy Mother !..
The Fourth Sorrow
The Virgin Mary meets Jesus
carrying his Cross

a woman spoke up from the crowd and said to him. “How happy is the women who bore you and nursed you!”

But Jesus answered, “Rather, how happy are those who hear the word of God and obey it.” (Lk.11,27-28).

“I am the Lord’s servant,” said Mary’ “may it happen to me as you have said”. (Lk.1,38).

“Whoever does not take up his cross and follow in my steps is not fit to be my disciple”.

1 Our Father, 7 Hail Mary, 1 Glory be, - Holy Mother !..
The Fifth Sorrow
Mary stands at the foot of the Cross

“Standing close to Jesus’ cross were his Mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas and Mary Magdalene. Jesus saw his mother and the disciple he loved standing there; so he said to his mother, “He is your son”. Then he said to his disciple, “She is your mother”. From that time the disciple took her to live in his home. Jesus knew that by now everything had been completed and he said, “I am thirsty”. Jesus drank the wine and said, “it is finished!”. Then he bowed his head and died.” (Jn.19, 25-30).

“And so, because he died, sin has no power over him; and now he lives his life in fellowship with God. In the same way your are to think of yourselves as dead, so far as sin is concerned, but living in fellowship with God through Christ Jesus”. (Rm.6,10-11).

1 Our Father, 7 Hail Mary, 1 Glory be, - Holy Mother !..
The Sixth Sorrow
Mary receives in her arms the body
of Jesus taken down from the Cross

“There was a man named Joseph, a member of the Council. He was a good and honorable man. He went into the presence of Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then he took the body down.” (Lk.23, 50-53).

“By our baptism, then, we were buried with him and shared his death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from death by the glorious power of the Father, so also we might live a new life.” (Rm.6,4).

1 Our Father, 7 Hail Mary, 1 Glory be, - Holy Mother !..
The Seventh Sorrow
Jesus is placed in the Tomb

“… Wrapped in a linen sheet, and placed in a tomb which had been dug out of a solid rock and which had never been used.” (Lk.23,55).

“Nor must you surrender any part of yourselves to sin to be used for wicked purpose. Instead, give yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; for you do not live under law but under God’s grace”. (Rm.6,f12-14)s.

Amen.
Prayer of Supplication to our
Lady of Sorrows

Oh Virgin of Sorrows, Mother whose heart was pierced, our support in trouble turn your compassionate heart upon us all and listen to our prayers.

Weary, disillusioned and distressed we appeal to you, our merciful Mother. With repentant hearts we bring all our sins to you and beg you to obtain forgiveness for us. You who never refuses anyone your protection and help hearken to us and grant that we may stay close to you so that with you we may once more experience the appalling torment he underwent, the humiliations he suffered at the hands of his persecutors, and the sense of being forsaken which robbed him of all consolation will enable us fully realize his infinite love and our own ingratitude, and we will receive the grace to resolve to amend.

Hail Mary…..

O Mother of Sorrows, grant that the anguish of soul suffered by Jesus as the hour of his Passion approached, may teach us to accept all the bitter trials of our lives with resignation.

Grant that through the deep distress he felt at the betrayal of Judas we may learn to forgive those who hurt and harm us.

Grant that through the torment, the hunger and the thirst he underwent on the road to Calvary we may never be overcome by the discouragement and mistrust we come across in our lives.

Grant that through the stroke of the spear which opened his Heart we may surely find the way to his Kingdom.

O Mother of Sorrows by means of all the tears you shed during his agony and at the hour of his death and burial grant us the grace of a sincere and real conversion so that we no longer offend him with our sins.

Hail Mary…..

O Virgin of Sorrows, it was the Lord’s wish that you should stand at the foot of his Cross, that your compassion for lost souls and those burdened by affliction might be the greater. Confidently, therefore, we turn to you to ask that we and our dear ones may be shielded from all misfortunes and adversities. If, however we should meet them keep us from giving in to despair and depression, so that we may rise above them.

Strengthen our human frailty in the face of suffering, comfort us and stay close to us.

Just as you gave Jesus your silent consolation during his agony, stand by us, too, in our hour of need.

O Virgin of Sorrows, accept this prayer we make.

Graciously hear us out of the love you bear for us.

May our petitions ever find their way to your maternal heart. Amen.

Hail, Holy Queen…..
Sweet Heart of Jesus,
Make me love you more and more.

The Mystery of Christ as powerfully preached by St. Paul, so luminously expounded by Vatican II, occupies more and more a greater place in modern Catholic theology. But in Christ, the greatest mystery is what is deepest in Him, what is his innermost nature – the mystery of his Love, the mystery of his Heart.

The mystery of the Heart of Christ is the Mystery of Christ, in the fullness of his love, and whose pierced Heart is a living sign of that love and the fountain of all graces. It is from the open Heart of Christ that the Church was born, the sacraments flow and the Holy Spirit is sent.

“The cult of the Sacred Heart should be considered by all as a noble and worthy form of that authentic piety which today, particularly after the decrees of the Second Vatican Council, we should foster towards the person of Jesus Christ.” (P. Paul VI, investigabiles divitias Christi, 1965).

It was St. Margaret Mary, who was chosen by God to make this devotion public and spread it through the world. Our Divine Lord appeared to her on several occasions urging her to propagate the devotion to His Sacred Heart. The Friday after the Octave of Corpus Christi has become the Feast of the Sacred Heart.

Offering to the
Sacred Heart of Jesus

(For every First Friday of the month)
O Lord Jesus, this is the day on which so many generous hearts, with whom you have been pleased to associate us, meet in your Heart. With them we adore you, we give ourselves to you, wishing to live only that we may love you and make others love you. O Heart of inconceivable goodness, we offer you this first Friday of the month, and we consecrate to you all our actions, our prayers, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, the fulfillment of our duties, our mortifications, and in particular our Holy Communion in order to make reparation for the coldness and indifference, the outrages and ingratitude of men towards you in this Holy Sacrament.
Accept, O Lord Jesus, this offering of your devoted children. Grant us in return the graces with which you have promised to enrich those who receive you in Holy Communion every first Friday of the month, and give us the strength of persevering, nay of becoming more fervent and zealous in this holy devotion. We pray also for our associates and for all Catholics, in particular for those who are tepid and negligent in your holy service, who have abandoned you despise your Church and its guidance, and by a criminal apostasy pierce your Sacred Heart with grief. Have pity on them, O Lord Jesus, impart to them the light of your divine Spirit, for the sake of the fervent prayers of your devoted servants here prostrate before you. You have promised the conversion of sinners, if we practice this salutary devotion to your Sacred Heart. Oh, graciously hear our supplications that these poor souls may return to you, their true Friend and Saviour. Amen.
Prayer of St. Margaret Mary
Eternal Father, suffer me to offer you the Heart of Jesus Christ, your beloved Son, as He Himself offered it in sacrifice to you. Receive this offering for me, as well as all the desires, sentiments, affections, movements and acts of this Sacred Heart. They are all mine, since He offered Himself for me, and henceforth I wish to have no other desires but His. Receive them in satisfaction for my sins, and in thanksgiving for all your benefits. Grant me through his merits all the graces necessary for my salvation, especially that of final perseverance. Receive them as so many acts of love, adoration and praise, which I offer to your divine Majesty, since it is through the Heart of Jesus, that you are worthily honoured and glorified. Amen.
Prayer of Reparation
Priest: Jesus, when, on the eve of your Passion, you were praying in the garden, the sight of all the sins of the world and the ingratitude of men who would turn away from you so torture your Heart that you fell into agony. So great were the sufferings of your heart that you began to sweat blood. You begged your apostles to watch with you and to keep you company in your prayer; but they failed to do so, and you had to suffer your agony, all alone. Behold now, Jesus, we come to you and we remain with you; we keep you company in your agony and tell you our Love.
For your agony in the garden,

For your agony in the garden,
People: We will console you, O Lord. For your mortal sorry : We will console
you, O Lord.
For your grief at being abandoned by all,
For the jeers and mockeries of your enemies,
For the failure of your friends,
For all the sufferings of your passion,
For the forgetfulness and ingratitude of men,
For all the blasphemies uttered against you,
For the way you are deserted in your Holy Tabernacle,
For the indifference shown towards your Sacrament of Love,
For the irreverence committed in your Sacred presence,
For the hatred of your enemies,
For the coldness of the greater part of your children,
For the infidelity of those who call themselves your friends,
For our own unfaithfulness and ingratitude
For the incomprehensible hardness of our hearts,
For our long delay in loving you,
For our tepidity in your holy service,
For your bitter sadness at the loss of souls,
For your long waiting at the door of our hearts.

Jesus, Divine Saviour, from whose Heart came forth the complaint foretold in the Book of Psalm: “I looked for one that would grieve together with me, but there was none, and for one that would comfort me and found none.” Grant us the grace to comfort your Heart broken by our ingratitude. Grant us to do this by a more sincere love for you a greater generosity in your service, greater faithfulness in carrying on your great commandment, the commandment of loving our neighbours as yourself love them, you who live and reign for ever and ever.
Act of Reparation to the
Divine Heart of Jesu
Humbly, kneeling before you, oh divine Heart of Jesus, we have come to renew our consecration to you, with a desire by an increase of our loyalty and love to make reparation for the offences committed against you by mankind.
:   Indeed, we will.
:   The more men curse your Holy Mysteries.
:   The more deeply will we believe in them, oh loving Heart of Jesus.
:   The harder evil forces try to rob us of our hopes of immortality.
:   The more deeply will we hope in you, oh Heart, the only hope of mankind.
:   The harder men’s ungrateful hearts resist your loving appeal.
:   The more deeply will we love you, oh beloved Heart of Jesus.
:   The more your divine Majesty is insulted.
:   The more fervently will we worship, oh divine Heart of Jesus.
:   The more your holy laws are forgotten or broken.
:   The more diligently will we follow them, oh sweet Heart of Jesus.
:   The greater men’s refusal to acknowledge and adore your goodness.
:   The harder will we try to put your virtues into practice, oh Heart, model of
all virtues.
:   The more your Sacraments are deserted and despised.
:   The more lovingly and diligently will we receive them, oh most Sacred
Heart of Jesus.
:   The harder the forces of hell seek the ruin of souls.
:   The more earnestly will we strive for their salvation, Heart of Jesus who
seeks our souls so ardently.
:   The more pride and self-indulgence tend to destroy love of duty and self-
:   The more willingly will we embrace mortification and self-sacrifice, oh
Heart of Jesus, so heaped with disgrace.
:   The more your and our dear Mother Mary is profaned by the wicked for
The wicked for the special privileges you bestowed on Her.
:   The more will we honour her, oh beloved Jesus, calling on Her as your
Mother and the Immaculate Virgin.
:   The more your bride, the Church, and your vicar, the Holy Father, are
persecuted, disgraced and humiliated.
:   The more will we honour them, rendering them our most loyal obedience,
oh most obedient Heart of Jesus.
Oh! Grant us, most compassionate Heart of Jesus, such great and powerful grace that we
may from now on truly become your disciples and your apostles throughout our lives, and
afterwards share in your glory and joy for all eternity. Amen.
of the Sacred Heart of Jesu
V.   O God, come to my aid!
R.!   O Lord, make haste to help me
(Our Father … Hail Mary… Glory be…)
O sweetest Heart of Jesus, I implore, that I may ever love you more and more.
1. Most loving Jesus, my heart leaps with joy in considering your loving Sacred Heart, all tenderness and sweetness for sinful man, and with unbounded trust, it never doubts your ready welcome. How many sins I have committed ! but now with Peter and Magdalene, in tears, I bewail and detest them, because they have offended you, my highest Good. Yes, grant me pardon, and may I rather die than offend you again, and may I live only to love you.
(Our Father ….. Glory be…..)
O Sweet Heart of Jesus, I implore that I may ever love you more and more.
2. My Jesus, I bless your most humble heart, and I thank you that in giving it to me as model, not only do urge me with much pressing, to imitate it, but at the cost of so many humiliations, you do point our and smooth the path for me. Foolish and ungrateful on that I was How far I have wandered! Pardon, My, Jesus; away with pride, but with humble heart, in the midst of humiliations, I wish to follow you help me, and I will bless your Heart in eternity.
(Our Father….. Glory be…..)

O Sweet Heart of Jesus, I implore that I may ever love you more and more!

3. I marvel, O my Jesus, at your most patient Heart, and I thank you for all those wondrous examples of unwearied patience which you did leave us. It grieves me that I shall still to reproach myself with my strange delicacy, shrinking from the slightest pain. Dear Jesus, pour into my heart a fervent and constant love for tribulations, for crosses, for mortifications, for patience, so that, following you to Calvary, I may with you attain to the joy of Paradise.
(Our Father….. Glory be…..)
O sweet Heart of Jesus, I implore that I may ever love you more and more!

4. At the sight of your most gentle Heart, O my Jesus, I shudder when I see mine so unlike you, since at a shadow, at a gesture, at a word in opposition, I fret and lament. Pardon my excesses, and grant the grace to imitate in the future, in whatever contrariety, your unalterable meekness and thus enjoy perpetual and holy peace.

(Our Father ….. Glory be…..)

O sweet Heart of Jesus! I implore that I may ever love you more and more!

5.Let hymns be sung, O Jesus, to your most generous Heart, conqueror of death and hell, for it will merit them all. I am more than ever confounded at seeing my heart so cowardly that it fears through human respect, every passing word; but it shall no longer be so. From you I implore strength so courageous, that fighting and conquering on earth, I may one day rejoice triumphantly with you in heaven.

(Our Father….. Glory be…..)

O Sweet Heart of Jesus! I implore that I may ever love you more and more!

Let us turn to Mary, consecrating ourselves to her more and more, and, trusting in her maternal heart, let us say to her:

By the precious gift of your sweetest heart, obtain for me, greater Mother of my God, and my Mother Mary, a true and lasting devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, your Son, that, united in every thought and affection with that Heart, I may fulfill all the duties of my state of life with ready heart, serving my Jesus evermore, but especially on this day.

“Where, apart from churches, is the divine Heart of Jesus more fittingly adored than in the sanctuary of the family ? The Christian family is rooted in the very depths of the Sacred Heart of Christ the King, whence the Church herself was born. If personal and family devotion to the Sacred Heart is nourished by liturgical worship, especially in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, it will be a witness to the true faith, to sincere love, and to a generous spirit of reparation”.
Pope Paul VI
The ceremony of the Enthronement is not an end in itself. It is the beginning of better Christian family living.
Promises of the Sacred Heart of
Jesus to Families who honour His
Sacred Heart
  1. I will give them all the graces necessary for their state of life.
  2. I will establish peace in their families
  3. I will bless every house in which the picture of My heart shall be exposed and honoured.
  4. I will console them in all their difficulties.
  5. I will be their refuge during life and especially at the hour of death.
  6. I will shed abundant blessing upon all their undertakings.
  7. Sinners shall find in My Heart a fountain and boundless ocean of mercy.
  8. Tepid souls become fervent. Fervent souls shall rise speedily to great perfection.
  9. Fervent souls shall rise speedily to great perfection.
  10. I will give to priests the power of touching the hardest hearts.
  11. Those who propagate this devotion shall have their names written in my Heart never to be blotted out.
  12. I promise thee, in the excessive mercy of my Heart, that my all-powerful love will grant to all who communicate on the first Friday of the month for nine consecutive month, the grace of final penitence; they shall not die in my displeasure nor without Sacraments. My Divine Heart shall be their safe refuge in this last moment.
The Enthronement

To enthrone the image of Christ means to recognize His rule over you. The Enthronement of the Sacred Heart means then, the recognition of Jesus, the God-man, who is all loving and merciful, as the King and Friend of family.

It means giving our Lord the first place in our hearts, in our family life.

It is like a “heart-exchange”. Jesus gives His Heart to us and we offer our hearts to Him. Under the influence of His Grace He really brings about transformation of our hearts, that is, of our attitudes, changing indifference into love, apathy into action, fear into trust.

We become different persons, for we have had a change of heart.

Bring Christ into your everyday
Family, make Christ truly
Present through prayer
  1. Begin by the daily renewal of the short act of consecration.
  2. Mass and Communion of reparation on the first Fridays and First Saturdays. At home honour the Sacred Heart by renewing the act of consecration as on the day of the Enthronement.
  3. Try to start (or continue) the family Rosary at least one day a week and daily if possible.
  4. If your church has Holy Hours or an Adoration programme, be the first to join. If not, make a monthly hour of adoration in your home, as a family or individually.
  5. Feast of the Sacred Heart. Mass and Communion of reparation as our Lord requested. Renewal of the Enthronement at home.
  6. In general, make your Sacred Heart shrine the central point of your family living.
Special occasions for renewal of

Some Practical Suggestions
What to prepare

For the altar, use any table. Cover it with a white cloth (the priest will bring everything needed for Mass). In another part of the room where the Sacred Heart image has to be placed, place a small table covered with a cloth.

The Sacred Heart image (statue or picture) may be placed on this table, with holy water.

In a conspicuous and, if possible, a permanent location prepare a ‘throne’ for the Sacred Heart image. Place a shelf below it for flowers and light.

Inviting guests.

Invite neighbours, including non-Catholics. Serve, if it is possible, light refreshments.

Maintain an informal home-atmosphere. Arrange for the parents to be lectors. Obtain copies of the booklet for participants.

Family Covenant with God

Eternal Father, we, the members of the …. Family (each names himself / herself, in turn) unite ourselves with the altar of sacrifice in the Mass, and accept the loving Kingship of Jesus Christ, your Son, over our family. Freely we make this Covenant of love with you, Father, and dedicate to the Heart of Jesus all that we are, all that we have, without any reservation on our part. We offer this Covenant in reparation for those who sin against your authority, and for the extension of the social reign of the Sacred Heart over domestic and civil society.

Almighty Father, send your Holy Spirit to sanctify our lives: share with us our joys and comforts, our trials and labours; teach us truly to love one another, in our home, in our neighbourhood and in the world.

Sustain us with holy hope in times of human weakness; refresh us with the life giving water from the wounded Heart of your Divine Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, the King and the Centre of our family.

Sacred Heart of Jesus be our intimate Friend forever; live this life of love with us, inspiring us by the example of your gentle and humble Heart.

Act of Consecration

(It is recommended on the First Friday and when the family gathers together to pray)

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, who made known to St. Margaret Mary your great desire to reign over Christian families, we are gathered here today to proclaim your complete dominion over our family. From now on we promise to lead a Christ-like life; we will strive to develop in our home all the virtues which bring with them the peace that you promised. And we will not compromise with the spirit of secularism which you have so strongly denounced.

You will rule over our minds through our deep and living faith. You be the king of our hearts by our generous love for you; and we will cultivate this love by the frequent reception of you in Holy Communion.

Divine Heart of Jesus, preside over our family gatherings, both spiritual and temporal. Sanctify our joys and comfort us in our sorrows and if any member of our family should have the misfortune to offend you seriously remind him, O Sacred Heart of Jesus, of your infinite love and mercy for the penitent sinner.

And when the hour of separation comes, when death brings its sorrows into our family, whether we go or whether we stay, we will humbly accept your divine will. And at the same time we will console ad comfort ourselves with the thought that the time will come when our whole family will be united lovingly with you in heaven forever. There we shall sing a hymn of praise to the infinite mercy and love of your Sacred Heart.

We ask the Immaculate Heart of Mary and our glorious protector St. Joseph, to offer you this family consecration of ours. May the memory of this consecration be with us always.

(To gain the plenary indulgence let us pray for the intentions of the Holy Father and for the absent members of the family; living and dead: Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.)

Prayer of Thanksgiving

O divine Heart of Jesus, who said to Zaccheus, “Today I must abide in your home”, we thank you for your great mercy in choosing our family from so many others to receive the gift of your presence and your love and to make of this home a “domestic church” wherein you will receive love, reparation, and consolation for the ingratitude of men.

Unworthy tough we be, we thank you for the honour you have bestowed upon us by coming to preside over our home.

Gratefully we adore you, overjoyed to see you sharing with us our work, our family problems and the joys of the members of this portion of the people of God.

We thank you for dwelling with us. From now on may this home be for you another Bethany where you will always find yourself among friends.

Stay with us, Lord, for as Nazareth’s lowly home, we too have a tender love for the Virgin Mary, your Mother, whom you gave us to be our Mother. Dispel from our hearts through your holy presence all sorrow and discouragement.

O most faithful Friend, if you had been here in time of sorrow the consoling balm of your peace would have healed those hidden wounds which are known of you alone.

Stay with us for perhaps the darkness of trial is about to come upon us. Stay with us, for the night is coming on !

The world strives to envelop us in the shadows of unbelief but we want to be faithful to you, who alone are the Way, the Truth and the Life.

O divine Jesus, let your words to Zaccheus be fulfilled in our family, “Today salvation has come to this home.”

Yes, dear Lord, take up your abode with us, so that we may live in your presence and grow in your love you alone are King and you alone will we serve.

May your triumphant Heart, O Jesus, be forever loved, blessed, and glorified in this home

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Thy kingdom come ! Amen.

To thank the Immaculate Heart of Mary for the graces obtained through her intercession, and to proclaim the “Mother of the Church,” “Queen and Mother of this domestic church” (All recite the Hail Holy Queen).

: Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.
: hat we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
: Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.
: Have mercy on us.
: Immaculate Heart of Mary.
: Pray for us.
: St. Joseph
: Pray for us.
: St. Margaret Mary.
: Pray for us.
: Glory to the most Sacred Heart of Jesus for ever and ever
: May the blessing of Almighty God, the Father and the Son and the Holy
Spirit descend upon you and remain forever.
All : Amen.
Prayer for a Happy Death

O Lord, my Creator and Redeemer, in a spirit of adoration I whole heartedly accept the sentence of my death, according to your will.

I intend to die a devoted child of the Church and to pass to eternity with the best dispositions of faith, hope, charity and repentance for my sins, renewing my baptismal promises and my religious commitment.

I offer you, Lord, all the circumstances, even if painful, which I will accompany my passage to eternity in reparation for my sins and to better merit heaven.a

I invoke the great models of a happy death; Jesus Crucified, with whom I intend to repeat, ‘Father, into your hands I commend my spirit’; the Virgin Mary, so that she may pray for me now and at the hour of my death. St. Joseph, that he may obtain for me a holy life so as to deserve a death like his.

Jesus in agony, my suffering mother, St. Joseph, I ask you for these graces.

To life a good life, observing faithfully the commandments and all the duties of my state of life, which will assure me of a good death.

To be able to receive, in case of grave illness, the Sacraments of Confession, Viaticum and the Anointing of the sick, and also the plenary indulgence.

To be faithful to my vocation, according to the graces bestowed on me, so that my life may be most fruitful for God’s glory and my eternal well-being.

The grace to say my daily prayers and to do everything for my salvation; in particular the frequent reception of the sacraments of Confession and Communion, following the liturgy.

Jesus Master, I believe in you.
Jesus Master, I hope in you.
Jesus Master, I love you.
Jesus Master, I beg for your mercy.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I give you my heart and soul.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, assist me in my last agony.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, may I breathe out my soul in peace with you.

Pray for the Missions

Most lovable Lord Jesus, who at the price of your precious blood have redeemed the world, look with your eyes of pity on unhappy mankind, so large a portion of which still lies in error. Grant that the light of truth may shine upon them in the fullness of its splendour.

Multiply, O Lord, the messengers of the Gospel: with your grace strengthen, bless and reward their labours, so that by them all unbelievers may come to know and follow you, their Creator and their Redeemer.
Recall to your fold the sheep that have strayed; lead back the rebellious to your one true Church. Hasten, O most adorable Jesus, the joyful coming of your kingdom upon earth.

Draw all men to your most sweet Heart, that all may share in the priceless gifts of your redemption, in the eternal happiness of heaven. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.

Prayer for Our Nation

O Saint Paul, teacher of nations, look down with your smile of love on this sacred land of India and her children. Your heart was large enough to welcome and embrace all nations in an embrace of peace. Now, in heaven, the charity of Christ urges you to enlighten all with the light of the Gospel and to seek to establish the kingdom of love.

Raise up vocations; strengthen apostolic workers; make all hearts docile to the divine Master.

May this great nation find in Christ the Way, the Truth and the Life. May its light shine over the world; and may it always search for the kingdom of God and his justice.

O holy apostle, enlighten us, strengthen us and bless us. Amen.

In Time of Difficulties or Sickness
All-powerful and merciful Father, refresher of the weary, comfort in sorrow, strength in weakness, hear the prayer which we sinners make to you. Save and sustain us in our present need (sickness), and help us to face the future with courage. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Prayer for Peace

Make me an instrument of your peace,
where there is hatred, let me sow love,
where there is injury, pardon,
where there is discord union,
where there is despair, hope,
where there is darkness, light and
where there is sadness, joy.

O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love, for it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.

We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you:

Because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.

Prayer: Look down, O lord, on this your family, for whose sake our Lord Jesus Christ did not hesitate to give himself up into the hands of wicked men and to suffer the torments of the cross. You who live and reign for ever and ever. Amen.

Act of contrition: My most merciful Jesus, humbly prostrate at your most holy feet, with all my heart I ask pardon for my sins, which I deplore and detest because they are an offence against your infinite goodness. I resolve to die rather than offend you again; and I resolve to love you above all things until death.

Holy mother, pierce me through, in my heart each wound renew, of my Saviour crucified.

At the cross, her station keeping, Stood the mournful Mother weeping, Close to Jesus to the last.

First Station
Jesus is condemned to death

We adore you, etc.

The most innocent Jesus accepts, for God’s glory and peace of men, the unjust sentence of death given by Pilate.

Most loving Jesus, for your love and in penance for my sins I accept my death with all the pains, sorrows and afflictions which will accompany it. May your will, and not mine, be done, O Lord.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.
Holy mother, etc.

Through her heart His sorrow sharing,
All His bitter anguish bearing,
Now at length the sword had passed.

Second Station
Jesus is made to bear his Cross

We adore you, etc.

Jesus takes the cross upon his shoulders. Jesus Master tells us. ‘If anyone wishes to come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.’

I wish to follow you, O divine Master by mortifying my passions and by accepting my daily crosses. Draw me to yourself, O Lord. The way that leads to heaven is narrow. On the way, I will lean on you, my guide and my comfort.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.
Holy mother, etc.

Oh, how sad and sore distressed,
Was that Mother, highly blest,
Of the sole-begotten One !

Third Station
Jesus falls for the first time

We adore you, etc.

Jesus, overcome by the agony of Gethsemane, weakened by the scourging and the crowning with thorns, exhausted by fasting, falls for the first time beneath the heavy weight of the cross.

Jesus fell to sustain the falling, the temptations of the devil, of the flesh and of the world are many.

Lead us not into temptation, O Lord, but deliver us from all evil, past, present and future.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.
Holy mother, etc.

Christ above in torment hangs;
She beneath beholds the pangs,
Of her dying glorious Son.

Fourth Station
Jesus meets his afflicted Mother

We adore you, etc.

Jesus, bearing the cross, meets his mother, whose soul is pierced by a sword of sorrow. The hearts of Jesus and Mary are united in the same passion.

Behold the two hearts which have greatly loved man, not sparing anything for his salvation.

Most loving hearts of Jesus and Mary, grant me the grace to know you better, love you and imitate you. Take my whole heart so that it may always be yours.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be,
Holy mother, etc.
Is there one who would not weep,
Whelm’d in miseries so deep,
Christ’s dear Mother to behold ?

Fifth Station
The Cyrenean helps Jesus to carry his Cross

We adore you, etc.

The Jews with false compassion force a certain passer-by, Simon of Cyrene, to take up the cross of Jesus.

I am also bound to co-operate in the redemption of souls, by completing, with my sufferings, the passion of Jesus Christ.

Accept me, O good Master, as a small victim. Preserve men from sin, save sinners from hell, and free the souls in purgatory from their sufferings.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.
Holy mother, etc.

Can the human heart refrain,
From partaking in her pain,
In that Mother’s pan untold ?

Sixth Station
Veronica wipes the face of Jesus

We adore you, etc.

Veronica with pious compassion wipes the face of Jesus, and Jesus rewards her by leaving the impression of his face on the towel.

I see in this disciple the model of those who make reparation. I understand the duty I have of weeping for my sins and for all the offences against your divine majesty. O Jesus, impress on me and on every soul the need to make reparation.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.
Holy mother, etc.

Bruised, derided, cursed, defiled,
She beheld her tender Child,
All with bloody scourges rent;

Seventh Station
Jesus falls for the second time.

We adore you, etc.

A second time Jesus’ strength fails him. And having been disgraced and rejected he falls a second time under the cross.

O good Master, thus you pay for our sins committed maliciously and for putting ourselves in the occasions.

Lord, I detest my sins, which offend your majesty, and which caused your divine Son’s death and my spiritual ruin. I resolve to avoid sin in the future.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.
Holy mother, etc.

For the sins of his nation,
Saw Him hang in desolation.
Till His spirit forth he sent.

Eighth Station
Jesus speaks to the women of Jerusalem

We adore you, etc.

Many women weeping for Jesus, follow Him. He tells them, ‘Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.’

I humble myself for my many faults and for those which others have committed because of my bad example, lack of zeal and negligence in my duties.

My Jesus, give me the grace to avoid sin, by deed, word, example and prayer.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.
Holy mother, etc.

O thou Mother ! Fount of love!
Touch my spirit from above;
Make my heart with thine accord;

Ninth Station
Jesus falls the third time.

We adore you, etc.

Jesus falls the third time beneath the cross because our obstinacy has led us to sin again.

Obstinacy blinds the mind, hardens the heart and places the soul in danger of an impenitent death.

Give me, O Lord, the grace to watch over myself, to be faithful to the examination of conscience and to confess often and sincerely.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.
Holy mother, etc.

Make me feel as thou hast felt;
Make my soul to glow and melt,
With the love of Chris, my Lord.

Tenth Station
Jesus is stripped of his garments.

We adore you, etc.

On Calvary Jesus is stripped of his clothes and given a mixture of gall and myrrh to drink.

How much our sins of ambition and intemperance have cost Jesus!

Lord, give me the grace to evermore detach my heart from all sinful vanities and pleasures, that I may seek only you, my supreme and eternal happiness.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.
Holy mother, etc.

Holy Mother! Pierce me through;
In my heart each wound renew,
Of my Saviour crucified.

Eleventh Station
Jesus nailed to the Cross.

We adore you, etc.

Jesus nailed to the cross, endures terrible pains, under the gaze of his most afflicted mother.

Those who crucify their flesh together with their vices and passions, belong to Jesus Christ.

I wish to belong to Jesus Christ in life, in death, at the universal judgement and for eternity. Do not let me be separated from you, O Jesus.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.
Holy mother, etc.
Let me share with thee His pain,
Who for all my sins was slain.
Who for me in torment died.

Twelfth Station
Jesus dies on the Cross

We adore you, etc.

Jesus suffers ineffable pains for three hours and then dies on the cross for our sins.

Jesus’ death is renewed every day on our altars at holy Mass.

Most loving Jesus, grant me devotion to the Holy Mass.

Most loving Jesus, grant me devotion to the holy Mass, so that I may participate in it often and with the dispositions which your holy mother had at the foot of the cross.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.
Holy mother, etc.

Let me mingle tears with thee,
Mourning Him who mourned for me,
All the days that I may live.

Thirteenth Station
Jesus is taken down from the Cross.

We adore you, etc.

The sorrowful Mother receives into her arms her Son taken down from the cross.

Mary sees in his wounds the horrible work of our sins and Jesus’ infinite love for us.

Devotion to Mary is a sign of salvation. O mother, accept me as your son, be my companion in life; help me now and especially at the hour of my death.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.
Holy mother, etc.
By the cross with thee to stay,
There with tee to weep and pray,
Is all I ask of thee to give.

Fourteenth Station
Jesus is placed in the Sepulchre

We adore you, etc.

The body of Jesus, anointed with spices, is brought to the sepulcher. Mary awaits with living faith her Son’s resurrection.

I firmly believe, my God, in the resurrection of Jesus Christ, as I believe in the resurrection of the dead.

Every day I wish to rise to a new life so as to merit to rise in glory on the last day.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.
Holy mother, etc.

Let me, to my latest breath,
In my body bear the death,
Of that dying Son of thine.

While my body here decays,
May my soul Thy goodness praise,
Safe in paradise, with thee. Amen.

Prayer: O God, you willed to make holy the wood of the life-giving cross with the precious Blood of your only begotten Son. Grant that we may rejoice in the glory of the cross and to your protection. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be, for the Pope’s intentions.

Prayer for our Institute

Heavenly Father, you made our Lady of Sorrows our special Patroness, our “sign of victry” and “the only hope in our afflictions”.

May she help us to be very sensitive in our love for one another and very attentive in the observance of our vows and rules. May she be the custodian of our spirit of prayer and detachment, and our gentle leader in our search for unity among us.

Most of all, may she help us to be loyal to the goals established by our Founder and be courageous in their quest.

Through her powerful intercession and prayers, may we be enriched with many, generous and saintly vocations.
We ask this through Our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, and the Holy Spirit, who are one God for ever and ever.
